4th of July Celebration on Riverstreet

Juneteenth in Savannah

For over a decade, the Jepson Center has been offering a Free Family Day in recognition of Juneteenth Day. Also known as Freedom Day, Juneteenth Day marks the end of slavery in the United States. Families can enjoy free admission to the museum as well as special activities and demonstrations celebrating African-American and Gullah/Geechee culture.

SCAD Sand Arts Festival

The SCAD Sand Arts Festival in Savannah, Georgia, is an annual event that transforms the beach into a vibrant canvas for artistic expression. Hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), the festival showcases the incredible talents of students, faculty, and community members as they create intricate and imaginative sand sculptures along the shoreline.

North of Gaston Hidden Gardens Tour

This special Tour unlocks the garden gates of selected private gardens and historic gardens for self-guided exploration. Ticket holders will enjoy springtime gardens located in Savannah’s Landmark Historic District, which is the largest in the United States. All the gardens are located in the area North of Gaston Street (NOGS) to the Savannah River.

SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival

Experience a kaleidoscope of color at the annual SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival. During this treasured tradition, SCAD students, alumni, and local high school students transform Savannah’s historic Forsyth Park into a technicolor landscape of chalk compositions for the chance to win coveted prizes. Savannah Shamrock Run

Kick off the St. Patrick's Day festivities in Savannah by joining us for the 29th annual March of Dimes Shamrock Run 5K! The Shamrock Run is fun for all ages and includes a Kids Run prior to the start of the 5K. Costumes are encouraged and four-legged (canine) friends are always welcome! Greening of the Fountain

The 2024 featured musician is Chloë Agnew, who gained fame during her time with Celtic Woman, Agnew has gained fame in her own right as a singer-songwriter and hails from Dublin, Ireland.

Savannah Book Festival

Calling all readers, writers, and book-lovers! On Saturday, February 17, 2024, forty authors will give free 30-minute presentations in multiple unique venues in historic Downtown Savannah. Authors will discuss their creative processes and their life as a writer, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Food trucks will provide delicious refreshments in between presentations. Black Heritage Festival

Christmas on the River

Enmarket Bridge Run

The Savannah Bridge Run has been sponsored by Enmarket (formerly Enmark) for many years. Held on the first Saturday each December, the Bridge Run has become an iconic event in Savannah. People come from all over the Southeast for the only opportunity each year to challenge the 5.5% grade of the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. Proceeds from the race are donated to the Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion at St Joseph’s Hospital. A 5K, 10K, and 15K “double pump” are available to choose from along with a kid’s fun run. With an average attendance over 5000 runners, the Enmarket Bridge Run continues to be one of the biggest crowd drawing events in Savannah every year!

These Crowded Streets - Dave Matthews Tribute

THESE CROWDED STREETS are an Atlanta based band tributing the music of Dave Matthews Band as well as other great 90’s artists. Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia's "Bridging Savannah's Bridge" takes the traditional "bridging" ceremony that ends a Girl Scout year (or marks some other milestone or achievement) and SUPER sizes it! Savannah Salutes Memorial Day

Plant Riverside District will host the 2023 “Savannah Salutes” Memorial Day Celebration from Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29.

This patriotic four-day event will include a special Memorial Day presentation by the Veterans of Foreign Wars on the Montgomery Park Stage on Monday, May 29 at 5 p.m. as well as free live music and food and drink options for all ages throughout the holiday weekend.

Featured performers include the Parris Island Marine Band on Saturday, May 27 at 1 p.m.; the Eric Culberson Blues Band on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m.; Hollifield on Sunday, March 28 at 6 p.m.; and Laiken Love and The Fellowship of Love on Monday, May 29 at 1 p.m.

Additional highlights include a Savannah Ghost Pirates Slapshot Booth on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. as well as nightly fountain shows in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park at 9 p.m. featuring patriotic music and a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces.

Georgia Historical Society Super Museum Sunday

It’s no secret that one of the reasons why Savannah is such a popular vacation spot is because of our city’s rich historical background and
culture. Each year, the Georgia Historical Society opens the doors to the state’s cultural institutions for free! In Savannah and Tybee alone, over 40 museums and centers participate.

The 13th Annual Savannah Book Festival

The Savannah Book Festival will be held February 13-16, 2020 in locations in and around Telfair, Wright and Chippewa Squares in Savannah’s Historic District, bringing in renowned authors for all kinds of events throughout the week.

American Traditions Vocal Competition

Each February, talented vocalists from around the nation flock to Savannah for the chance to win over $35,000 in cash prices and a solo
performance with the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra. This annual competition provides musical education, outreach and performances for Savannah residents of all ages. Each year, the American Traditions Competition treats Savannah residents and visitors to four days of vocal stylings including country performances, jazz and more.

Tybee Mardi Gras

Tybee is a natural setting for the Mardi Gras event due to
its unique character and fun-loving residents.

The event will encompass the traditions of Mardi Gras, an
event with origins dating back to the ancient Romans and carried on today in
cities such as Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana. Mardi Gras is held
on the last day before the start of Lent.

Tybee will be dressed in an array of purple, gold and green
flags depicting the Tybee Island Mardi Gras celebration. Mardi Gras Tybee will
include the Mardi Gras Tybee Parade, the Mardi Gras Tybee Street Party
featuring free live entertainment and more.

Savannah Hockey Classic

College hockey fans flock to the Savannah Civic Center each January for a legendary battle: the Savannah Hockey Classic. What started close to 20 years ago is now an epic competition between Georgia and Florida rivals: The University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State and the University of Florida. For two nights, watch these four teams go head-to-head in some of the most intense games of the year!

Holiday Tour of Homes

Exquisite architecture, beautiful furnishings, and gracious hospitality are all part of Savannah’s Holiday Tour of Homes and Inns scheduled for Dec. 7, 2019.  This intimate tour experience allows guests to look “behind the doors” at stunning examples of Savannah architecture and home décor.

Presented by the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Savannah, this highly anticipated event features private homes and historic inns as well as museum homes.  

Christmas on the River and Lighted Christmas Parade

We celebrate the holiday season with all Christmas cheer! River Street and surroundings will be all dressed up for the holidays and we will have lots of fun events going on this year! Santa will be visiting us, the Savannah Waterfront Kidz Zone will have fun events for the young ones, live bands and dance groups. Savannah’s Lighted Christmas Parade is an annual tradition and local favorite that takes place during Christmas on the River every year. The parade marks the official arrival of St. Nick and takes place in the Historic District, starting on the west end of River Street, traveling throughout downtown before ending in City Market. This year’s parade will have over 40 community groups and businesses with multiple units of decorated cars, trucks, floats, and trolleys. Even the walking groups are wrapped in Christmas lights! 

Rock and Roll Marathon

Set for its 9th annual running this fall, Georgia’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah Marathon & Half Marathon brings more than 14,000 runners and walkers each year to the streets of the city immortalized in John Berendt’s 1994 classic Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, with more than 10,000 of those finishers completing the half marathon alone.  

It’s exactly that Southern charm and romance that runners will get a taste of at the race, which thankfully — for both the runners’ and the spectators’ sakes — takes place at a time when this normally hot and humid city will have cast off summer’s heat for the far milder weather of fall.

The race begins at the corner of Bull and Bay Streets in the city’s downtown historic district, known for its plentiful hotels, shops, restaurants and bars that are filled to the rafters every St. Patrick’s Day.

This time of year, however, the downtown is populated largely by tourists as well as students at the Savannah College of Art and Design, whose campus lies just blocks from where the race started.

After the start through what is a really visually interesting part of Savannah — the historic district lies just a stone’s throw from the Savannah riverfront and walk — the race heads west along Bay Street and out of downtown, into some pretty nondescript areas.

The course spends the next few miles heading mostly outside the city, through more industrial-warehouse-commercial district areas.

However, this isn’t at all disappointing, especially for runners looking to set new personal record times or for runners trying their first marathon or half marathon — this course is pretty much tailor-made for someone who’s a first-timer, as it really is one of those few race courses that’s almost completely flat for the entire 13.1 miles.

Christmas Lighted Boat Parade

A Christmas parade, Savannah style! Over 40 lighted vessels parade both sides of the waterfront, accompanied by live music performances, tree lighting ceremony, and a fireworks extravaganza you won’t want to miss! 

Picnic in the Park

Savannah’s largest outdoor musical event, Picnic in the Park (PIP), attracts nearly 20,000 attendees to historic Forsyth Park each October to share in the camaraderie. Free and open to the public, this event is a true collaboration with the City of Savannah, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, local colleges, and several corporate and community partners, as well as the 3rd ID and veteran groups.

Picnic in the Park not only gives Savannah Philharmonic the opportunity to share world-class music to a wide-range of citizens, it also enables us, in partnership with local schools and colleges, to give students the opportunity to perform on stage, in a live professional environment. In addition, the U.S. Army Band performs with the presentation of the US Color Guard and Salute Battalion. The combined performances and experiences will create a festive atmosphere aimed at generating social solidarity all while exposing a diverse audience to positive impacts of quality music.

Savannah Film Festival

The Savannah College of Art and
Design presents the annual festival, filled with cinematic creativity from both
award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers. Each year more
than 63,000 people attend the eight-day SCAD Savannah Film Festival. The
festival is host to a wide variety of competition film screenings, special
screenings, workshops, panels and lectures.

Savannah Jazz Festival

Savannah Jazz was born out of the Coastal Jazz Association, a grassroots non-profit organization formed in 1981 to help Jazz thrive in Savannah, Georgia by sponsoring live performances, encouraging Jazz education, and fostering the camaraderie of others with shared interests. Savannah Jazz is responsible for the annual Savannah Jazz Festival, the Savannah Jazz Hall of Fame, and the Savannah Jazz Orchestra. Members of Savannah Jazz enjoy 10 free world-class jazz concerts per year.

Savannah Gourmet Seafood and Spirits Festival

The Gourmet Seafood & Spirits Festival is a four day festival featuring some of the finest culinary experiences in the Southeast. Celebrating our 5th year, this annual get together, brings to Savannah a series of dazzling seafood and spirit events hosted by the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. Overlooking the Savannah River and historic downtown Savannah, it is a venue with laid back charm and unparalleled vistas.

The festival is annually, the talk of the town. With chefs coming together from across the country for the Coastal Chefs Table, to engaging in the "charged" atmosphere of the AquaCurean Challenge, this is the must attend festival to close out the summer.

Independence Day Celebration

Savannah’s Waterfront is delighted to host the Independence Day Celebration on Tuesday, July 4th. The event is free and open to the public.

The 3rd Infantry Division Bands will be performing from 6:30pm until 9:45pm on Rousakis Riverfront Plaza. Based at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Ga., members of the Brass Band and Rock Band will kick off the evening. The finale is the 40-piece U.S. Army Concert Band that has delighted audiences around the world since its inception in 1943.

The annual Independence Day Fireworks Show begins at 9:15pm and is expected to last about 20 minutes. Spectators on the waterfront can bring chairs and blankets; however, coolers are discouraged.

There will be several opportunities to celebrate our nation’s birthday on Savannah’s Waterfront with dinner and drink specials at many waterfront restaurants. Merchants are looking forward to greeting guests as they enjoy the many shopping and dining options along the waterfront.

Beach Bum Parade

The annual Tybee Beach Bum Parade will take place on Friday, May 17th. This FREE event is a favorite with both locals and visitors to Tybee Island. The parade goes all the way down Butler Avenue and features an island-wide water fight! Kids love it and so do adults who have maintained their sense of humor. The parade officially begins at 6:30 but it gets a little wet even before then.

The Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens offers a rare opportunity to enter some of Savannah’s finest private homes and admire the special furnishings that have been treasured by families for generations but seldom seen by visitors. In addition to home and garden walking tours, you can also enjoy some exclusive special events as well as some of the best food and hospitality the South has to offer.

Savannah has the largest urban landmark historic district in the United States. In this 2.5 square mile area, there is an astonishingly preserved genteel city encompassing the beauty, architecture and history of the old South. Savannah was founded in 1733 by General James Edward Oglethorpe whose colonial plan was based on a grid of residences and broad thoroughfares with spacious public squares at regular intervals. This design has blossomed into a gracious city whose downtown has been enhanced by more than fifty years of preservation activity. Twenty-two oak-canopied squares surrounded by lovely homes and churches give Savannah a character of its own.

Holiday Tour of Homes and Inns

Exquisite architecture, beautiful furnishings, and gracious hospitality are all part of Savannah’s Holiday Tour of Homes and Inns scheduled for Dec. 8, 2018. This intimate tour experience allows guests to look “behind the doors” at stunning examples of Savannah grandeur. In addition, festively decorated historic Inns with their luxurious spaces add to the tour experience along with beautifully restored museum homes.

Sponsored by Savannah’s Downtown Neighborhood Association, this highly anticipated event features eight private homes and three inns and two museum homes. There are two tour sessions: Option one--10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or Option Two—noon to 4:00. The same houses are on each session. The ticket price is $65 for each session.

Christmas On The River

Join the Savannah Waterfront Association on Dec. 7-9, 2018 as they get into the holiday spirit with a holiday celebration on River Street. Rousakis Plaza will be full of regional arts & crafts exhibitors with holiday gifts and stocking stuffers to check off of your Christmas list.

Music and local entertainment will take place on the Arbor Stage all weekend long. Don’t miss Savannah’s Lighted Christmas Parade, which marks the official arrival of St. Nick. This is one event you don’t want to miss. Weekend festivities are free and open to the public.
